Heartily fresh and crisp, elegant with invigorating minerality. A wonderful everyday wine with moderate alcohol and very fine acidity.
The grandson of the winery’s namesake, Helmut Dönnhoff, laid the foundation for its international success and, with his consistent style and the quality of his wines, shaped the reputation of great German Rieslings worldwide. After his apprenticeship at his parents’ winery and his studies in viticulture, he took over responsibility for the vineyards and the winemaking in 1971. “The basis for exceptional wines is exceptional vineyards. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to acquire and, in some cases, recultivate several first-class sites. It remains a privilege for me that we can still produce wines from such magnificent top sites today.”
And that’s more than I dared to dream at the beginning of my career.” The deep understanding of great wines and exceptional vineyard sites was passed down from grandfather to son to grandson. Now the fourth generation has taken over: Cornelius Dönnhoff. He began his apprenticeship in 1999 and, after various stays abroad, initially assumed responsibility for the vineyard and cellar in 2007; today he is responsible for the entire operation. The story continues, and the winery remains what it is: a family business in the truest sense. With its ten Grand Cru vineyards, which are among the best in the region, the winery enjoys an excellent international reputation for producing outstanding German Rieslings.
