The Uco Valley is located at the foot of the Andes, running north to south on the western edge of Argentina’s Mendoza region. At 70km long and 40km wide, its rich alluvial soils form a cultivated oasis with altitudes in excess of 900 metres above sea level. The vineyards benefit from a cold dry climate and a wide temperature range of almost 20ºc between day and night.

The combination of multiple microclimates, altitudes and soil types has resulted in many unique terroirs across the individual vineyards. The challenge which Sebastián Zuccardi and the winemaking team are embracing is to identify the individual characteristics of each vineyard and allow them to express their identity in the wines they produce.

This wine is made by Sebastián Zuccardi in honour of his father José. A blend of 95% Malbec with 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from high, mountain vineyards in the Uco Valley with a high concentration of stones and calcium carbonate in the soils. It is fermented in concrete tanks and aged in large oak barrels (foudres).

The harvest of 2021 was a great one. Due to its cool and humid weather conditions, grapes had the time they needed to reach their optimal ripeness with a perfect balance of acidity/sugars and outstanding tannin structure. Our painstaking work to selectively harvest by plot and soil type (a practice we have been implementing for over a decade) allowed us to harvest each corner of the vineyard at the perfect time and, in so doing, showcase the great diversity that characterizes Uco Valley.
