From Pascal Thevenard:

Claudius Lafarge, my grandfather and our great-grandfather, was born in 1891 in Uchizy. He was mobilized during the First World War, where he was decorated for his bravery. In 1918, upon his return, he took over the family farm, which at the time consisted of livestock, grain, and vineyards. Claudius married Emma, and in 1930, their daughter Marguerite, my mother and our grandmother, was born. Over the years, Claudius developed the family farm and became the first farmer to plant the Chardonnay grape variety in the commune of Uchizy. These plots are still in production today.

In 1952, Marguerite married Roger THEVENARD. Roger also came from a family of winegrowers in the commune of Lugny. Together they took over the family farm in Uchizy, which they would develop in turn throughout their lives.

In 1967, while they were winegrowers in their own cellar, Roger suffered a serious accident that left him immobilized for many months. To ease their workload, they decided to join the cooperative winery in the village of Chardonnay. They would then deliver the fruits of their harvest until their retirement.

In early 2021, we decided to withdraw 12 hectares from the cooperative winery and thus created Domaine THEVENARD. In doing so, we returned to the roots of my grandparents and great-grandparents. Father and son, we are the fourth and fifth generations of passionate winemakers, proud and heirs to a rich heritage.

Our Mâcon-Uchizy ‘Marguerite’ cuvée is a tribute to my mother and our grandmother, Marguerite Thevenard. It’s a testament to the love we had for her and to the origin of the plots that make up this cuvée. These vines are the fruit of her heritage. This collection of plots is located on a plateau at 250m altitude on the border of the communes of Uchizy and Chardonnay. They are predominantly on clay-limestone soils with a clay base. This wine has notes of yellow fruit with some very light buttery and honeyed aromas. The palate is generous and delicate.
