Since Jessica produced her first wine at Stellenbosch University, she has been trying to redeem her family’s reputation in wine. Steeped in the history of 17th century winemaking, her forefathers made “sour” wine for the Duke of Austria! Luckily, now Jessica makes Pinot Noir and some rather fine Riesling rather than sour wine.
Produced from the famed Kaaimansgat 700m above sea level, winemaker Jessica is a particular fan of the 2022 vintage. On the nose, there’s dainty rose hips, lifted cocoa and the unique orange rind character imparted by the vineyard site. The palate boasts that fine Pinot weightlessness, combining power and grace, with red and black cherry fruit, umami notes, roasted chestnuts, with silky tannins and fresh acidity. A keen home cook, Jessica’s favourite pairing with Nom Pinot is Tom Yum soup, citing how its salty savoury flavours long for the fruit of this Pinot!
