Located in Central Coastal Chile, just 12 km from the Pacific Ocean, Leyda is a very cool & windy area, where Pinot Noir grapes ripen slowly and develop in to wines full of fresh fruit, wonderful acidity and clean minerality.
Leyda has been a pioneer since they began to plant vineyards in the area in 1998, before the Leyda Valley was recognised as an appellation of origin (DO). Today, Viña Leyda is internationally recognised as a boutique winery, renowned for producing some of the finest Pinot Noir in Chile.
Chile’s most awarded cool climate winery, led by top winemaker Viviana Navarette. Leyda’s coastal microclimate, cooled by the Humboldt current, brings unique freshness and acidity. Established as D.O. Leyda Valley in 2001, wines from El Granito and El Maiten sites feature ancient granitic soils, imparting a distinctive minerality.
Chilled to 10°C, grapes sat in open stainless steel tanks for 6 days under anaerobic conditions before selected yeast inoculation. Fermentation at 27-28°C for 6 days with “punching down” 3 times daily. After 2 days on lees and skins, 100% was transferred to new and one-year-used French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation, aging for 10 months.
